Design-based learning for leadership
Jules L. Bruck, University of Delaware            Anthony Middlebrooks, University of Delaware ABSTRACT This paper introduces a new pedagogical approach – design-based learning – that holds great promise for leadership education, particularly for developing the more elusive facets of leadership performance rooted in the habits of mind used by effective leaders. Design-based learning (DBL) represents further examining the connections between leadership and design. Integrating the elements of design-thinking into experiential challenges for developing leaders, the DBL approach aligns with the characteristics of those problems often encountered in leadership, and situates students to see basic leadership theory and practice differently.
