Online Book Clubs as an Instructional Tool            Tamara M. Walser, University of North Carolina Wilmington ABSTRACT This article describes an action research study of the effectiveness of online book clubs as an instructional tool for a Master of School Administration technology course. Data included student surveys, self-assessments, and book club posts. Findings indicate that online book clubs were effective overall. Specifically, the online book clubs facilitated a learning community, the readings were beneficial, and students increased knowledge and skills related to course content and longer-term professional development. Findings also included specific book club procedures that were effective as well as needs for procedural improvement.
