Examining Online Language Practice Communities            Joellen E. Coryell, The University of Texas at San Antonio            M. Carolyn Clark, Texas A&M University ABSTRACT Because language is a social function, providing the necessary interaction inherent in acquisition often presents a challenge to online language education. This study found adult online students whose motivation was to improve their Spanish communicative abilities supplemented their learning by constructing personal learning communities that included an offline Spanish-speaking membership.
