ABSTRACT
Vocabulary concept development is a critical skill for proficient reading
comprehension. In this study the effectiveness of a visual imagery strategy
(Info Imaging) was compared with a definition- sentence writing strategy for
learning essential vocabulary. Participants included 64 seventh grade students.
Results indicate significantly greater gains when using the Info Imaging strategy,
particularly for students in African American and Hispanic subgroups. Implications
of these findings and instructional recommendations are also discussed.
