Sustaining the Trinity of Service Learning
Teddi S. Deka, Missouri Western State University
Student learning enhancement through service involves good communication
and feedback between instructor, site supervisor, and student. Formative
measures, assessing learning-in-progress, provide good instructor-student
interchange because they encourage learning during the experience. Summative
measures, assessing overall learning after the experience, provide good
instructor-supervisor interchange because they can be quantitatively
evaluated to identify improvement areas. Examples of such measures and how
they can encourage instructor-supervisor-student interaction are presented.
