  • Sound Instruction is an annual book series published by the Academic Exchange Quarterly (AEQ).
  • See Volume One as an example.
  • Only AEQ Feature Editor can become Sound Instruction Book Editor. See #4 Book Editor
  • Book Editor will receive a complimentary copy
  • Book Editor’s duties and responsibilities are indicated by BENCHMARKS-TIMELINE #1-7
  • AEQ reserves the right to modify said timeline and/or guidelines at any time without prior notification.
Book Editor applicant makes a preliminary evaluation
BENCHMARKS-TIMELINE #1-4
  1. START AT ANY TIME
    1. check whether your KEYWORD has at least 68 published articles
    2. remember, out of 68 about 11-20 published articles must be secured by you
    3. send e-mail to rapidintellect@yahoo.com seeking approval for book editor - specify desired volume and year
    4. in 1-4 days, you will get AEQ response
  2. WEEK 2-5
    1. check listing of your articles in SUBMISSIONS REVIEWED AND SCHEDULED FOR PUB
    2. where there are two KEYWORDS to an article - the first one is yours
    3. divide available articles into two categories, then into three categories/lists
      1. authors did not give advance copyright permission to be considered for Sound Instruction book
      2. authors gave advance copyright permission to be considered for Sound Instruction book,
        look for letter B after the number of authors. Example

      3. then, divide articles with letter B into two subcategories, article is
    4. consequently, you ought to have three categories/lists, authors
      1. 1st - did not give advance copyright permission
      2. 2nd - gave advance copyright permission - article is more than 4 years old
      3. 3rd - gave advance copyright permission - article is 4 years old or less - this last category/list
        forms the base for your book - these articles are ready to be published
    5. To remind AEQ Manuscript Authentication & Copyright Agreement
      AEQ articles must not be reprinted for inclusion in any publication for sale without author's explicit permission. Anyone may view, reproduce or store copy of said article for personal, non-commercial use as allowed by the "Fair Use" limitations (sections 107 and 108) of the U.S. Copyright law. For any other use and for reprints, contact article's author who may impose usage fee..   3. WEEK 6-7
    1. select desired book publication date from available volumes at the end of this page...
    2. send desired book publication date and the above three different categories/lists (1st, 2nd, 3rd) to AEQ for verification and approval
      1. each category/list entry ought to have
        • publication year
        • volume and issue
        • submission number
        • article's title
        • number of authors and letter B if any
        • number of tables if any
    3. in 1-3 weeks, you will get AEQ response
    4. we will upload book/volume tentative publication date along with TRACK-YOUR-BOOK-ENTRY to AEQ webpage where you and authors can monitor book publication progress
  4. WEEK 8-10
    1. usually, you will need e-mail address in order to contact authors
    2. AEQ will give you authors' e-mails for articles published on or before Spring 2007 (Volume 11, Issue 1). Send e-mail request to rapidintellect@yahoo.com
    3. the other e-mails (from Summer 2007 issue to the present) are published in each issue Table of Contents page. Check listing in SUBMISSIONS REVIEWED AND SCHEDULED FOR PUB
  5. WEEK 11-21
    1. this is the most important time in your publication endeavor - you are about to contact the authors
    2. first ask yourself, can I meet the expectations within a given timeframe, given the responsibilities of the task of editor and my personal workload?
    3. remember because of three categories/lists of authors, you must write three different e-mail messages - here are some suggesstions
    4. before sending the above e-mail message, ask yourself, do I want to read full text of each article or just abstract of a given article?
    5. do ask author for a copy of the abstract or the full text

  6. WEEK 22-33
    1. book publication is cancelled or delayed when the number of revisions is below set minimum, 30 articles
    2. book description
      1. usually, book's content consists of 2-5 chapters, with 18-7 papers per chapter
      2. each paper observes 2500-4000 word limit
      3. about 1-3 months before publication
        • Book Editor writes 2000-4000 word Preface, see Vol I
        • each Chapter Editor (if any) writes 300-400 word Introduction, see Vol I
        • all (Book Editor and Chapter Editors) can have also individual articles in the book.
      4. a typical volume will have 200-300 pages i.e. about 30-40 articles/papers
    3. book can be published in 18 months or 9 months "fast track" or any timeline in between.
  7. WEEK 34-39
    1. publisher assigns ISBN number and tentative publication date
    2. Forward, Preface, Introductions are due as e-mail attachments
    3. Book Editor prepares book/volume Table of Contents
    4. publisher merges all book materials into a single document
      • first editing, publisher composes PDF file of the book, verifies content, layout and prints paper copy
      • second editing, two independent proofreaders read and verify content in print paper copies
    5. publisher prepares final PDF copy and decides on a firm publication date - at the printer's discretion
    6. publisher reserves the right to remove from publication any submission at any time for any reason
    7. publisher reserves the right to cancel book publication at any time for any reason
  8. END
    1. Books Editors promote their volume
    2. book is printed and bound
    3. NOTE: the number of books printed is determined by the number of pre-publication orders times 50, e.g. 20(pre-publication orders)x50=1000 books printed.

  9. After your book/volume is published, your ongoing role as a partner in the overall Sound Instruction publication effort will be critical to the long-term success of your book. Such efforts, should you so desire, include continued promotion of your book and/or plan for another book/volume e.g. continued AEQ Feature Editor activities.
